CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Health or DOH reported that the number of dengue cases in Nueva Ecija has reached 4,420.

According to DOH Nueva Ecija Development Management Officer IV Clesther Jose Espinosa, this is from January to the fifth of August, which is about 100 percent raised compared to the 2,068 cases of the same period last year.

Based on the agency's data, 18 towns and cities in Nueva Ecija recorded a higher number of people affected by the disease this year including Aliaga, Cabiao, Gabaldon, General Natividad, General Tinio, Jaen, Laur, Peñaranda, Quezon, San Antonio, San Isidro, San Leonardo, Santa Rosa, Santo Domingo and Talavera as well as the cities of Cabanatuan, Gapan, and Palayan.

According to Espinosa, the agency is focusing on the campaign in cooperation with each local government in the municipalities, cities and barangays to stop the increase of the sick.

Health promotion, he said, is the safeguard to spread precautions and methods of preventing any illness.

According to Espinosa, the agency always reminds to clean the environment, eliminate the source and breeding grounds of mosquitoes, especially stored water, as well as support the practice of fogging in areas that have been declared hotspots or dengue outbreaks.

He said that if the sources of mosquitoes are not eliminated, they will continue to increase and the fogging and other measures against the spread of this disease will not be effective.

Early treatment is also important if you experience any symptoms such as fever, rashes, headache and joint pain, especially if you feel stomach pain, vomiting, difficulty breathing, which are signs of severe dengue.

Out of the reported 4,420 sick throughout Nueva Ecija, the number of deaths due to dengue since January this year has reached nine. (CLJD/CCN-PIA 3)
